~Penny’s Rating: A ~
After reading Lonely Hearts, I have come to the following conclusions:
1. This series rocks.
2. I now want to own a Tesla.
3. I want to relive my college years at St. Timothy, and sing my aca-scuse me ass off. (I may be combining this with a Pitch Perfect fantasy…)
4. I have a renewed obsession with all things Studio Ghibli, especially Howl’s Moving Castle.
I am so glad that Baz and Elijah got their story! If you haven’t read the Love Lessons series, I really do recommend you start with book one, Love Lessons, because you will have a better idea of who all of the characters in the series are, and they are all awesome sauce.
This book is like old home week, because we get to visit with the MC’s from Love Lessons and Fever Pitch, see all of our pals from St. Timothy and even run into a few (spoilers) other slightly older residents of Heidi Cullinanland Minneapolis/ St. Paul (I won’t say who exactly, but I was so glad that they showed up in this!)
Heidi Cullinan has a gift for tackling really intense issues: drug use and trauma recovery, affluence and abandonment, bullying, and panic attacks. She masterfully juxtaposes these with: romance, college shenanigans, amazing music, twue ruve, very hot sex, plus unhealthy obsessions with the inventions of Elon Musk, and the works of Hayao Miyazaki. She manages to tie everything up in a sexy little bow and leave readers basking in the warm glow of so many happy feels. This whole series is a great. Go forth and devour.
Heidi has also announced that there will be at least two more books in the Love Lessons series, one will feature a F/F romance, and the other a trans MC! I can’t wait!

Even hot messes need a happily ever after.
With the quiet help of his wealthy family, Sebastian “Baz” Acker has successfully kept his painful past at bay. But as the end of college draws near, his friends—his buffer zone—are preparing to move on, while his own life is at a crippling standstill. With loneliness bearing down on him, Baz hooks up—then opens up—with Elijah Prince, the guy Baz took a bullet for last year. The aftershocks of their one-night stand leave giant cracks in Baz’s carefully constructed armor. For the first time, the prospect isn’t terrifying.
Accustomed to escaping his demons by withdrawing into his imagination, Elijah isn’t used to having a happy herd of friends. He’s even less comfortable as the object of a notorious playboy’s affections. Yet all signs seem to indicate this time happiness might be within his grasp. When Baz’s mother runs for a highly sought-after public office, the media hounds drag Baz’s and Elijah’s pasts into the light. In the blinding glare, Baz and Elijah face the ultimate test: discovering if they’re stronger together…or apart.
Warning: Contains sex in a Tesla, sex in a cupboard, sex under a piano, kinky role play, and a cappella RuPaul songs. Just a couple of boys groping, battling, then finally loving their way to becoming men.
About the SERIES
The Love Lessons series are new adult LGBT contemporary romance novels set at various colleges within the American Midwest. While Love Lessons and Fever Pitch feature gay protagonists, subsequent novels will include lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and heterosexual heroes and heroines.
The heat level for these stories is significantly sweeter than some of Heidi’s erotic romances, which has a tendency to make the sexual tension ratchet off the charts.
Book four in the series, tentatively titled One of the Girls, will feature Rose and Mina. Book five will feature Lejla, who you meet in Lonely Hearts. Whether or not the series goes beyond these novels is yet to be determined.
